The essence of traditional links golf is the unpredictability of the conditions – whether it’s rain, hail, or sunshine, you never know what to expect until you arrive it. When the conditions are perfect, the game is flawless; when they are not, it presents an incredible challenge that demands you to prepare, face it head-on, and simply aim to beat your mates.

After the round, there are always stories to share – tales of good luck and bad. And of course, these moments are complemented by indulging in King Island’s world-renowned produce, such as succulent steaks, fresh crayfish, artisanal cheese, and excellent Tasmanian wines.

This winter, why not visit King Island to discover what awaits you in and after each round of golf?

About King Island

First discovered by Europeans in 1799, King Island is a little remote, located around half way between Tasmania and the Australian mainland state of Victoria, in the middle of the Bass Strait. No passenger ferries commute to the island so the only way to get there is to fly North from Tasmania of South from Melbourne.

Until 2015, the only golf facility on the island was the modest little composite 18-hole course at King Island Golf & Bowling Club, featuring seventeen tees, twelve greens and ten fairways. Then, along came the Mike Devries – designed Cape Wickham Golf Links 30 miles to the North, followed a year later by Graeme Grant’s Ocean Dunes.

Suddenly, almost overnight, King Island became a golf destination that now features high on the “must-play” bucket list of intrepid golfers the world over, especially those who like to play the game on as many top class course as possible in the least accessible corners of the globe.

Every hole on the course has an ocean view, which is extremely rare, and no 2 holes are the same.
